The people who came to meet her were often struck by the joy and serenity that inhabited her. His youthful, cascading laughter sometimes echoed in her little room...<\/p><\/strong>\r\n<strong class=\"bold-text\"><blockquote><p>I belong to you, Jesus, joyfully in the Cross.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12 fw-col-sm-8\">\n\t\r\n<p>When lived in God and offered up in love, adversity is not always an obstacle to joy. Suffering is not necessarily an impasse.<\/p><div class=\"fw-heading fw-heading-h3 \">\r\n\t<h3 class=\"fw-special-title \"><span class=\"\">Nothing can separate us from the Love of God<\/span><\/h3>\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>Marthe knew that she was deeply loved by the Lord. Against all odds and despite the progress of her illness, she believed that he would never abandon her. This was the foundation of her joy.<br \/>\"<em>Jesus is all mine and I am all his. [\u2026] He is my joy... he is my heaven... he is all the happiness of my life! I love him too much for him to abandon me<\/em>,\" she said in 1931.<\/p><p>Like St Paul, Marthe was certain that nothing, no event, not even her illness could separate her from the love of God. God's power is manifested in his weakness. Her default position was one of trust and confidence:<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12 fw-col-sm-4\">\n\t<div class=\"text-right\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/www.martherobin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2015-04-05_155357.jpg\" alt=\"\/\/www.martherobin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2015-04-05_155357.jpg\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12\">\n\t\r\n<div class=\"col-md-10 pull-right\"><blockquote><p><em>As [...] the suffering increases and becomes more difficult, I feel my trust become more intense.<br \/>Jesus, yes, Jesus alone is my sweet and constant hope [\u2026].<br \/>Nothing can separate me from his love.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12 fw-col-sm-8\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-heading fw-heading-h3 \">\r\n\t<h3 class=\"fw-special-title \"><span class=\"\">The joy comes from the gift of self<\/span><\/h3>\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>There is no joy in living for oneself, closed in on oneself... Joy comes from the gift of oneself. And Marthe realised that even though she was sick and bedridden, she could give a lot\u2026<br \/><em>\"First, your mood can affect everything around you for good or bad; then, you can give your heart, soul and kindness. One thing always remains and it is within <\/em>everyone's grasp: <em>the joy of others... Giving a little peace, courage, hope and prompting a smile, all these are acts of grace and there is no need to be on your feet or healthy to accomplish them. On the contrary, nothing is more understanding than great pain.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p>Consequently, in order to radiate joy and peace around her, Marthe chose to remain discreet about the pain she suffered almost constantly:<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12\">\n\t\r\n<div class=\"col-md-10 pull-right\"><blockquote><p>I know better and better how to conceal (...) everything that reminds me that I am sick, and to silence the pain from which I suffer constantly and of which I speak very little. I want everything around me and within me to radiate harmony, holy contentment, joy and an immense generosity of heart.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12 fw-col-sm-8\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-heading fw-heading-h3 \">\r\n\t<h3 class=\"fw-special-title \"><span class=\"\">The cross is not incompatible with joy<\/span><\/h3>\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>At the heart of adversity, Marthe knew that Jesus was always with her, even when she suffered, and this was her joy:<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12\">\n\t\r\n<div class=\"col-md-10 pull-right\"><blockquote><p>My life is a cross, but a cross of love... a cross of delights, because suffering with Jesus is no longer suffering.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12 fw-col-sm-8\">\n\t\r\n<p>She knew above all that with Jesus, the pain can be transfigured:<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12\">\n\t\r\n<div class=\"col-md-10 pull-right\"><blockquote><p>Jesus shares all our sorrows. He wants to decorate all our crosses with flowers.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12 fw-col-sm-8\">\n\t\r\n<p>In contemplating Jesus suffering for us, Marthe found the link between suffering and love:<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12\">\n\t\r\n<div class=\"col-md-10 pull-right\"><blockquote><p>Jesus is the living book of the Christian.<br \/>We have so much to learn from Jesus at Calvary, Jesus on the cross, Jesus, the prisoner of love! He is my only book; He was the one who taught me the divine art of suffering.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12 fw-col-sm-8\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-heading fw-heading-h3 \">\r\n\t<h3 class=\"fw-special-title \"><span class=\"\">By uniting her suffering with that of Jesus, she bore much fruit<\/span><\/h3>\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>Marthe did not glorify suffering, but she embraced it because she knew that if she gave it to Jesus, if she united her suffering with that of Jesus suffering for us, then her own suffering would then become useful, even fruitful:<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12\">\n\t\r\n<div class=\"col-md-10 pull-right\"><blockquote><p>O Jesus, Jesus, I love you! I am happy in all my sufferings. All my trials, my afflictions, my sorrows, my sorrows, I offer them to God [...] so that all [...] may be used to distribute the infinite treasures of truth, graces and mercy concealed in the heart of God.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12 fw-col-sm-8\">\n\t\r\n<p>The testimony of her prayer on Fridays, when she was united to Jesus in his Passion, is overwhelming... it is a hymn of love and blessings: \"B<em>less my parents. Bless my dad, bless my mum, bless my brother... Bless my sisters... bless all their children... Bless France, my country... Bless my parish that I love so much [...] may your will be done... may it be fulfilled in people's souls in particular...<\/em>\"<br \/>\"<em>O my Jesus, so many sins! But your mercy is infinite. You have forgiven them so many times that you will forgive them again, since I am asking you with all my sufferings<\/em>.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12\">\n\t\r\n<div class=\"col-md-10 pull-right\"><blockquote><p>Oh! My God! through my suffering, let me wipe away all the places where you are being insulted and wash them away with my blood. I want to help every soul to progress every day in your love and in the perfection of your divine virtues.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"fw-row\">\n\t<div class=\"fw-col-xs-12 fw-col-sm-8\">\n\t\r\n<span class=\"txt\"><p>Marthe, like others, such as John Paul II or the young Chiara Luce Badano, bears witness today to this pathway of light in the tunnel of suffering that the people of our times find it so hard to look at face-to-face.
